AnimC: Storyboarding

Recently, I was fortunate enough to begin taking classes at the Animation Collaborative in Emeryville, CA. In addition to my animation class, I decided to take Storyboarding with Louis Gonzales, story art being a long time interest of mine that I've never taken as much time as I'd like to pursue.

Anyway, I'm going to try and keep a record of some of the work I do for my classes, partly just for myself, but also for anyone else who might be interested in the AnimC. There is a lot of info out there, but if adding more can help someone make up their mind, I'm all for it.

Here are 20 storyboards I drew for the first assignment, which was to take a provided character and put him/her in several (unrelated, non-sequential) scenes. Keep in mind, I'm new to this.

Yakul

So now that I'm living in the SF Bay Area, I'm privy to a lot of neat obscure little occurrences that don't often happen back home in rural Tennessee. Tonight, I was lucky enough to be in San Francisco for a screening of Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke (newly re-printed on 35mm film). The little theater is playing Studio Ghibli films all week, and I thought it would be fun to go see the one that originally introduced me to Miyazaki's work several years ago.

Anyway, when I got home I doodled a bit with Autodesk Sketchbook, and ended up with a sketch of Yakul the Red Elk (and a couple of Kodama!) with a bit of color and refinement via Photoshop.
